ADULT CHRISTIAN FORMATION MINISTRY

Many varied opportunities are provided for exploring our Christian faith through worship, study and discussion. Everyone is invited to be part of this exciting ministry. The specific topics are usually listed on the website in The Call, St. Andrew's monthly newsletter.

The Sunday Adult Forum meets at 9AM in the church library for coffee and conversation. A variety of religious, biblical and social issues are discussed. We have a review of the gospel lectionary readings for each month, CD or DVD lectures from The Adult Forum at Grace Cathedral or the National Cathedral or The Teaching Company, lay led discussions about books and other topics of interest.

The Monday Discussion group meets in the evening at 6:30 for coffee, tea and conversation, from 7 to a little after 8:00 for discussion and closes with a Compline service at 8:15. This is a diverse study ranging from early Christianities to Celtic Christianity; book studies from Marcus Borg to C. S. Lewis; people from Dietrich Bonhoeffer to Julian of Norwich; topics from health care to immigration, American Religious History to world religions, and women in prison to children's foster care needs. The studies vary in length from one to eight weeks.

Wednesday Eucharists are at 11AM. We celebrate the lives of the Christians commemorated in the Lesser Feasts and Fasts of the Episcopal Church.

Wednesday Bible Study follows the Eucharist at about noon in the church library. This 1½ hour study includes reading and discussion of scripture, may use other books as resources and concludes with 10-15 minutes of Lectio Divina.

Special studies have included Lenten series such as "Spirit of Fire", an exploration of art and faith, and another on how your personality relates to prayer styles. Movies such as "Amazing Grace", "Babette's Feast" and others have been watched and discussed.
