Rite 13 liturgy of welcome and initiation - February 12, 10:00 service
As part of the Journey to Adulthood "curriculum," St. Andrew's will have the Rite 13 liturgy as part of our 10:00 Holy Eucharist on February 12. As a "coming of age" recognition, we will welcome Ephraim Woodin-Stockert, Katie Fox, and Nicole Heaton as they transition into adulthood from childhood. The ceremony is typically held during the 13th year - hence the name. This will be our first, so please plan to be a part of it with us and welcome these young persons as the young adults which they now are.
Faith Action Network (FAN) sponsors Faith Advocacy Day in Olympia
Watch for more details for this annual trip to Olympia to learn about issues in front of the state legislature which affect faith communities and how those faith communities can represent the needs of our advocacy for health care, education, jobs, housing, etc. This year it is Tuesday, February 14. We will arrange car-pooling as needed.
Pancakes! Alleluias! Palms! Fire!
There will be a traditional pancake supper beginning at 5:30 cooked by the men of St. Andrew's with some help from their friends. Find and bring your palms from last Palm Sunday and bring them in to be burned and turned into the ashes for Ash Wednesday (the next day). We'll also burn the written prayers we have been collecting for the year. AND we'll bury the alleluias (made the previous Sunday) so they can rest in the ground during Lent as we wait for the day of resurrection. It's a great evening so come!
Ash Wednesday is February 22
We will have two services of Holy Eucharist which includes the Litany of Penitence as a fitting beginning to the holy season of Lent. At the 11:00 a.m. service we will restore our Stations of the Cross to their places during the Litany. Imposition of ashes is offered at both services. As we step out of secular time and into sacred time, Ash Wednesday is our entrance into this holy season of being with Jesus on the way to the cross. And beyond it.
